  • Tongkat Ali is native to Southeast Asia,1,2 and belongs to the quassia family (Simaroubaceae)

  • A slow-growing evergreen plant with maturation completed in about 25 years and reaching up to 49 to 59 foot in height1,2

  • The root contains a range of constituents, with the bitter-tasting quassinoids forming the major portion of these constituents3

  • Eurycomanone is the most abundant quassinoid and is often used as a quality marker4

      • as a tonic and for fever1 and during illness 2

      • immediately after childbirth to strengthen and ward off sickness 1

      • as an antiaging herb 3

  • In Thailand the root has been traditionally used for:

      • sore throat, tonsillitis, tuberculosis 4

      • detoxification, as a diaphoretic and anthelmintic 4

  • Many parts of the plant, including the root, have been used traditionally in Indonesia to enhance stamina or relieve fatigue after exertion 5-7
